What Does it Mean to be Board Certified?

The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) was founded in 1929. It is the oldest and most prestigious specialty board in dentistry.

Only about 30% of the orthodontists in the United States achieve Board Certification. The process of becoming board certified is an intense ordeal.

The candidate orthodontist must meticulously evaluate his or her own work and identify the successes and shortcomings of each treatment for each treated patient. Then the treated patient cases are assembled into a presentation format which is shown to the elders of the specialty.

Dr. David Markham achieved board certification in 2008. His status as a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics demonstrates his ongoing commitment to clinical excellence and to providing outstanding treatment experiences for his patients.
